Ghost

In many ways a brand that defies description. I was attracted to the saddles when I realised how much can be done for the rider, and how the basic design suits so many pelvises in the first place. I can get so many riders stable and over their feet that it was hard to say no to becoming a distributor…after also realising they’re often used in the BIG rides such as Tevis and Big Horn, so if they can perform over 160km, they can perform in all areas.

Made in Italy by the incomparable Camillo Cavellin (yes, that’s really his name!), or Geppetto as I think of him, the brand is based around a selection of carbon fibre bases rather than traditional trees, and offers an unbelievable choice of models and further options and customisations. They are really light, give great spinal clearance and a real twist for the rider and have a massive range of accessories.

They have super stable bases, with flaps that can be moved to alter the angle and therefore thigh space, that can be used for jumping, right through to very soft bases in what is essentially a bareback pad. And everything in between.

They have little 13” and 15” pony models, three sizes of regular saddles, a main range with 26 seat styles (the rider aspect – jump, dressage, western, baroque, you name it!), the recently introduced “C” range has a range of options and the soon to be launched (late summer/autumn 2025) lightweight close contact E range for endurance so there really is something for everyone.

Also available to Ghost dealers is the Just Balanced range with an added leather tree for ultimate stability.

At very competitive prices these saddles should be considered by almost everyone, even if you’ve never considered a treeless saddle before.

BRANDS

I only work with brands I truly love. Every brand I choose to work with I believe are exceptional in their field, offering manufacturing quality as well as performing well above any others that I’ve come across over the years. They’re not generally “tack shop brands”, but are the best of the best for my discerning customers who seek out the best solutions for the challenges they face for them and their horses.

Occasionally I will stop offering a brand and am continually developing my understanding of horse-saddle-rider which means that a brand may no longer fit with my current approach and understanding.

Changing one’s perspective is to be expected in such a complex area where we should always be learning more!

Waldhausen

A large German company who offer all sorts of girths and stirrups, I carry some demos, sometimes have stock, but can order anything (they have a vast catalogue and website) needed for a saddle fitting. Competitive prices, mostly budget and mid priced options.

Previous brands

I can offer advice on purchasing second hand, and can check and adjust, AH saddles and ErgoX2 of Sweden. I no longer stock either brand or offer new fittings.
